Deerhunter
This is our first game jam entry, and also first game ever! Thank you for playing.
NOTE WHEN LOADING THE HTML5 VERSION. THE GAME IS LOADING WHEN SCREEN IS BLACK. After the jam is over, we will have an update that cleans up a lot of the bugs, and also polishes up the existing features. One thing is during the reload sequence, you have to click the text prompts rather than what the prompt is saying to click. The game ends when going to your truck, when the final animation plays.
Controls:
- WASD - Move
- Left Mouse Button - Fire
- R - Reload
- F - Interact
SLIGHT SPOILER WARNING:
The ending's still a little confusing in version 1.0 (Jam version). An animation hasn't been implemented in yet where the player is capture from behind when getting close enough to the truck. This then transitions to the ending scene where you are tied up in the cave (the animation for the cannibal in the cave still needs to be added, currently he's just t-posing over the player). One other thing to be added is the third deer shot will have the blue paint on the texture, slightly foreshadowing the player's demise.

nice shooter
Thank you for the video! Stay tuned for a much stable experience as we crank out the post game jam release.
Nice work! So much potential here! I loved the retro-PSX graphic style, and the character's movement was smooth (although I wish we could sprint). The decision to not have background music was a smart one, I believe-- it makes the setting feel eerie and lonely with just the crunch of the snow. But perhaps the sound of wind or crows cawing could add more ambience? And maybe deer running sfx.
I enjoyed the reloading mechanic. Very cool idea, although at times it felt clunky and unresponsive (I played the downloadable windows version btw). The deer corpses would slide halfway across the map, which was odd, but the cannibal totems were well done. I even got spooked on my way back to the truck in my second playthrough, thinking I could hear the enemy coming up behind me! Also I liked the color palette you chose for the environment.
I know it's a jam and you're gonna squash the bugs afterwards but I think you've made great design choices so far and I love the hunter/cannibal subject matter. Can't wait to play the next version!
Thanks for the feedback! We have crow models that will fly over and getting this out the door before the deadline I had no idea the wind sounds were not active.
Following week, I'll be wrapping up the whole project to what we dreamed it would be.
